Nepafenac Ophthalmic Solution 0.3% w/v

Nepafenac ophthalmic solution is indicated for the treatment of post operative pain and inflammation associated with cataract surgery and cystoid macular edema following cataract surgery.

Composition:

Nepafenac IP 0.3% w/v
Sterile Water for Injections IP q. s.
(Solution Preserved with Ionic buffer System)

Description:

NEPAWEL OD ophthalmic solution contains Nepafenac. Nepafenac is a first ocular non steroidal anti-inflammatory and analgesic prodrug.

Indications:

● Post operative pain and inflammation associated with cataract surgery
● Cystoid macular edema following cataract surgery.

Directions for Use:

The application of Nepafenac ophthalmic solution is one drop in the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) 3 times daily beginning 1 day prior to cataract surgery, continued on the day prior to cataract surgery, continued on the day of surgery and for the first 2 weeks of the post operative period or as directed by the physician.

Contraindications:

● Hypersensitivity to the active substance, to any of the excipients, or to other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)

● Precaution should be taken if any patient has sensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid, phenyl acetic acid derivatives and other NSAIDs because there is potential for cross sensitivity.

Pharmacology:

When nepafenac is administered into the eyes, it penetrates the cornea and distributes to all intraocular compartments and the tissues including the aqueous humor, ciliary body, iris, retina and choroid. After reaching to the ocular tissues, by the ocular hydrolysis, it is converted to the active NSAID i.e. Amfenac.

● Amfenac inhibits prostaglandin synthase which is an enzyme responsible for converting cyclooxygenase into prostaglandins.
● Nepafenac targets the posterior segment of eye, intraocular and vascularised tissues.

Presentation:

NEPAWEL OD Eye Drops is available in a 3 ml pack.

Storage:

Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C.
Protect from light & moisture. Do not freeze.
Keep out of reach of children.

Use the solution within one month after opening the container.
